Painting in Calgary & Okotoks

Interior painting in Calgary and Okotoks: full-house repaints, single rooms, doors and trim, ceilings, and the drywall repair that makes the new paint actually look new.

Painting by Parkside Interiors

What's Included in a Parkside Paint Project

Painting is one of the few renovation services where the value is almost entirely in preparation. The actual paint goes on quickly. The reason a four-year-old paint job already looks tired is almost always under the colour: the surface wasn't sanded, the patches weren't feathered, the trim wasn't caulked, the primer was skipped, or the wrong sheen was used in a room that needed a tougher one. We fix all of that during prep.

Every Parkside paint job includes: moving and protecting furniture; full floor protection with rosin paper, plastic, or canvas drops; switch plate and outlet cover removal; light fixture protection or removal; full surface inspection; sanding of all glossy or chalky surfaces; minor drywall repair (nail pops, cracks, dings); caulking trim joints and corners; primer where needed (over patches, over stains, over high-tannin wood); two finish coats of premium paint; full clean-up; and a final walkthrough where we mark anything that needs a touch-up before we call it done.

Common Painting Projects We Handle

The Calgary Climate Factor

Calgary's dry winters and big temperature swings affect interior paint in two specific ways. First, drywall moves; small cracks at corners and ceiling-wall transitions are normal here, more than in milder climates. We caulk those joints with paintable acrylic and feather the patch wide so the seasonal movement doesn't telegraph through. Second, dry air slows paint cure. We adjust thinning, recoat times, and sometimes ventilation to compensate, particularly in winter when relative humidity inside the home can drop below 20%.

Why Calgary Homeowners Choose Parkside for Paint

Most painting companies in Calgary are either large crews who specialize in production work (new construction, multi-unit) or small one-person shops with variable quality. We sit in between: small enough to deliver consistent prep and finish on every project, organized enough to handle a full-house repaint without leaving you to coordinate the trades. Because painting is often the last thing a renovation needs before it is "done," our paint crew works around our other trades on every project we run, which means they have a calibrated standard for what an acceptable wall, ceiling, or trim job looks like.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does interior painting take?

A full-house interior repaint of a typical 2,500 sq ft Calgary home runs 6 to 10 working days for two coats of wall paint, plus another 1 to 3 days if we are also spraying ceilings, doors, and trim. Smaller jobs (a kitchen and entryway, or a single primary bedroom) are often completed in a single day maybe two.

Do I need to move out during interior painting?

No. We schedule painting one or two rooms at a time, mask off the areas we are working on, and use low-VOC products so the home remains liveable throughout the job. We move and protect furniture rather than asking you to clear rooms.

What paint brands do you use?

For interior walls we default to Benjamin Moore Regal Select or Aura, depending on the sheen and the room. For high-moisture rooms (bathrooms, mudrooms, laundry) we use Aura Bath & Spa or Sherwin-Williams Emerald. For trim and doors we use Benjamin Moore Advance or Sherwin-Williams Pro Classic. We can specify any brand you want; these are just the products we have had the most consistent results with in dry Calgary conditions.

Can you fix drywall damage before painting?

Yes. Drywall repair is included in most of our paint estimates for interior work. Standard repairs (nail pops, hairline cracks, small dings) are part of the prep cost. Larger repairs (water damage, holes from removed shelving, significant cracking) are quoted separately so the price stays transparent.

What about ceilings?

We paint ceilings flat-white or in colour as part of any full-room repaint. If your home has popcorn ceilings (very common in older Calgary homes), we can either paint them or remove them. Removing involves scraping, skim-coating, sanding, and priming the entire surface, which takes a few extra days but produces a dramatically better result.

Do you do exterior painting too?

We focus on interior work because the Calgary painting season is short (June through early September is realistic), and we keep our crew busy on renovations year-round. We can do exterior trim and accent work as part of a renovation, but we are not the right choice for a full exterior repaint as a stand-alone project. There are excellent Calgary specialists who do that better than we would.
